What this visa is for
The US B1/B2 is the standard visitor visa for the United States. B1 covers business activities (meetings, negotiations, conferences) and B2 covers tourism, family visits, and short-term medical treatment. The two are almost always issued together as a combined B1/B2.
Portuguese citizens usually travel to the US via the Visa Waiver Program (ESTA). If you are a third-country national in Portugal or have been refused an ESTA, you will need the B1/B2.
